OK, I live in a moisture-prone house, most notably the basement, where I have had a humidifer running all summer for years. During the rainy season it gets pretty damn moist down there. I know this.

I don’t live in a total slum, I’ve made some related improvements (newer roof, almost all new windows), I do maintenance (gutters, downspout), I don’t have empty tires laying/lying around, and I emptied the outdoor water feeder months ago. Moreover, it’s been an unbelievably dry summer.

And yet, I inexplicably have a mosquito infestation of some sort. Oh, and it’s inside.

They’re not swarming or anything, but let’s put it this way—their corpses are on every windowsill (were they trying to escape?) and every time I sit at the laptop (or visa versa) they either go for my hands or the laptop screen. They don’t go for (or seem to come from) inside sources of water. I just can’t figure it out.

WHY???? This summer alone (not including all the usual animal issues outside), I’ve had mini-ants, flies, and now mosquitoes.

I’ve already had rabies shots. If I get malaria or West Nile virus I am burning this place down.

To quote the Talking Heads song, “Burning Down the House,”
My house S’out of the ordinary
That’s right Don’t want to hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house

I think that will be my CD for on the way to work tomorrow. Thanks for listening—I feel better just venting.
